The school is overrun with zombies and they don’t have many supplies. Rather than sit and wait for help, the group decide to head out into the city and search for their families.
Democracy Under the Dead
They decide to take the school minibus as it’ll hold them all, but they need to get to it first and a mass of zombies stand in the way. Saya has come up with a plan that involves walking quietly between them as she believes they can’t see and hunt using sound. Takashi volunteers to test the theory rather than stay in an awkward situation with Rei.
It appears to be working, but then one of the other survivors they picked up on the way makes a noise and the entire horde zeroes in on their location. They race to the bus and notice another group running after them. When Rei notices Shido, a teacher, with them, she tells Takashi to leave them behind, but he’s not willing to do it.
Rei warns him that he’ll regret it and almost instantly we find out why as Shido tries to take over the bus and appears to have a number of sinister motives. Rei demands to get off the bus and Takashi follows to try to talk her back on, but a bus full of zombies separates them, forcing them to plan on meeting up later.
When the worst disasters imaginable is going on, there’s always one sinister bastard trying to take advantage of things. Shido is that guy and while he may come off as a moustache-twirling villain, he’s fairly effective and does create tension in the group. He showed just how ruthless he is when he kicked the injured student to the zombies so that he could escape. We also get to see how some of the other students view Takashi, although I’m not sure why they feel that way.
This was another excellent episode full of zombies and schoolgirls with some great action and tension. I love how the characters are changing to fit into the new world dynamic. Plus the relationship between Rei and Takashi is fascinating and complicated. Did I tell you that I love this series?
