Silverman Gym is hosting an arm-wrestling tournament and the winner receives a one-hundred-thousand Yen prize. They’re short on entrants for the women, so Machio is determined to convince the girls to enter!
Want a New Rival?
Hibiki has her eye on a home entertainment centre, but it costs almost one-hundred-thousand Yen and since all her money is going on food and gym membership, she’s got nothing to spare. However, when Hibiki gets to the gym she sees a poster for an arm-wrestling tournament – winner gets one-hundred-thousand Yen. Knowing nothing of arm-wrestling Hibiki seeks out Machio for some guidance.
Luckily, Machio has a table already set up and is happy to explain the rules and benefits of arm-wrestling. Hibiki and Uehara go first and to the shock of everyone watching, Hibiki destroys Uehara. If this were a sumo match, Uehara wouldn’t have just been knocked out of the ring, but the entire country too! Machio decides to give Hibiki a game and although he wins, he’s surprised that he had to put as much effort into beating her.
This episode was excellent, for the most part. The arm-wrestling tournament was easily the best part and watching Hibiki display her exceptional feats of strength is always entertaining. Remember when she destroyed the punching bag at the boxing gym? Well, this was better. I even saw a glint of jow in Machio’s eye when Hibiki exploded the sleeve of her shirt in the final. That was a proud moment for him.
The second half focused more on Zina and how she had transferred to Japan and moved in with Hibiki so that she could find out how to beat her. I think Zina is going to be a fun character, although at this moment I’m not sure the competitive rival fits with the general vibe. I’m sure they’ll all become friends in no time and we can resume our positive exercise regime.
