Waifu of the Week (#25) – Rei Miyamoto

Highschool of the Dead Episode 2 Rei Unsure

We all knew it was coming sooner or later, and with several more to come, that’s for sure. As for Rei, well, she may have stomped on poor Takashi’s heart and turned him into the sullen teenager that we all know and love, but she’s still Rei. That’s right Highschool of the Dead has its first waifu of the week and definitely not its last.

Waifu Wednesday

After four episodes of Highschool of the Dead, Rei has definitely had the lion’s share of the screen time. It makes sense, especially as her troubled relationship with Takashi deserves all the attention it gets. I understand how he feels though. She broke his heart, then when he saved her from the zombie apocalypse and killed her undead boyfriend, she still yelled at him. What’s a guy gotta do?

That said, it is impossible not to fall in love with Rei. She’s fierce and strong, able to defend herself, but still adorable when she needs help. In the latest episode, we really got to see both sides of that where she salvaged the gun and bullets from the mangled police car with the dead officers still inside. Then, at the gas station, she needed Takashi to save her from the creep and once she was away from him, she would have finished him off had Takashi not pointed out that the zombies were coming and that they would do it for them.

And just like that, Highschool of the Dead takes the coveted Waifu of the Week spot for week 25. I know everyone has their favourites, I mean Rei isn’t even my favourite, but she is amazing and has done more than enough in the first four episodes to claim this spot. I find it hard to believe that there are any anime fans that have found it to this site that hasn’t seen Highschool of the Dead, but if that is the case, go watch it now. You can thank me later!
